Women's Track and Field Shines at Boston University's Terrier Classic
Boston, MA --- Noelle Richard ran a season-best time in both the 200 and 400 meter events and Julie Eagle placed third in the high jump to highlight WPI Women’s Track and Field’s performance Friday at the Terrier Classic host by Boston University. The non-scoring meet featured athletes from Division I, II and III as well as several top-level unattached performers. Freshman Maria Grandoni continued to impress with an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:07.04 in the 1000 meters.

Women's Basketball Knocked Off on the Road by Nationally-Ranked Babson
Babson Park, MA --- Babson senior captain Kathleen King became just the third player in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds as she helped lead the Beavers to an 82-32 victory over visiting WPI in NEWMAC women’s basketball action at Staake Gymnasium on Wednesday night. WPI was paced by sophomore Siena Mamayek, who scored a team-high seven points, junior Cindy Chelius who pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.

TELEGRAM FEATURE: Athletes serving as role models for area kids (WBB's Logan Featured)
WPI junior Theresa Logan of Southboro, a forward on the women’s basketball team, has been matched with her Little Sister, 9-year-old Rebecca, a student at Elm Park Community School, for almost three years. “You have someone who looks up to you,” Logan said, “someone who depends on you. It’s very rewarding.” Logan has taken special pride in seeing Rebecca excel in math. The WPI women’s basketball team has been involved with BBBS since 2005 and a number of alums, coach Cherise Galasso said, have stayed in contact with their “Littles.”

Former WPI Football Assistant Joe Philbin Named Miami Dolphins Head Coach
Joe Philbin has been named the tenth head coach in Miami Dolphins team history, it was announced today by Chairman of the Board/Managing General Partner Stephen Ross and General Manager Jeff Ireland. Philbin joins Miami from the Green Bay Packers, where he originally joined the team on February 10, 2003 as assistant offensive line coach. He was promoted to offensive coordinator on January 15, 2007.

Lybarger Honored as NEWMAC Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week
Babson Park, MA --- WPI senior Andrew Lybarger has been named NEWMAC Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week. Lybarger shared the honor with Ryan Garr of Clark en route to picking up his third career weekly award from the conference. Lybarger led WPI to a second place finish at the Worcester City Championships hosted by Holy Cross this past weekend by winning three events.

WPI Weekly Athletics Update #17
Women's Track and Field's Julie Eagle and Men's Swimming and Diving's Andrew Lybarger have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Eagle cleared 5-4.75 to win the high jump over the weekend at the Wesleyan Invitational III. The height is currently 11th among Division III competitors. Lybarger swept the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and took the 200-yard freestyle at the Worcester City Championships.

Freilich and Tilbe Shine for Wrestling at NEWA Dual Meet Championships
Springfield, MA --- Alex Freilich and Tyler Tilbe combined to go 7-0 to headline WPI’s showing at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Championships host by Springfield on Sunday. As a team, the Engineers went 1-3 on the day, falling in the opener to Southern Maine (35-6) and defeating Norwich (23-21) before being defeated by Trinity (30-15) and Plymouth State (22-21 on criteria).

Bartley wins 200th Career Game as Men's Basketball Deals No.3 MIT First Loss
Cambridge, MA --- Leading by one, 54-53, with 9:40 to go, visiting WPI went on a 12-2 run over the next 3:17 to open up an 11-point lead en route to an 80-68 upset of No. 3 MIT in NEWMAC men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon. The loss is the first of the season for the Cardinal and Gray, who fall to 16-1 and 4-1 in NEWMAC play. The Worcester Engineers improve to 14-3 overall with the win, which was number 200 in the career of head coach Chris Bartley, and are also 4-1 in league play.

Lybarger Paces Men's Swimming at Worcester City Invitational
Worcester, MA --- Andrew Lybarger shared Swimmer of the Meet honors as WPI came in second at the Worcester City Championships hosted by Holy Cross on Saturday. Lybarger won the 200 free with a time of 1:50.70. He was also victorious in the 200 fly with a 1:59.37 time and came in first in the 100 fly with a 52.58. Ben List was another winner for WPI in the 100 free (50.47), while coming in second in the 100 fly (55.37) and third in the 50 free (23.29).

Women's Swimming Competes in Worcester City Championships
Worcester, MA --- WPI’s women’s swimming and diving team participated at the Worcester City Championships at Holy Cross on Saturday. Sonja Kent led the team with second place finishes in the 1650 free with a time of 18:16.57, the 400 IM (4:53.36) and the 500 free (5:24.27). Nica Sylvia finished third for WPI in the 3 meter diving (200.18) and fourth in the 1 meter diving (207.59). Alana Aubin finished fourth in the 100 free (57.28) and 100 fly (1:02.96) and sixth in the 200 free (2:05.50).

Four Second Place Finishes for Men's Track and Field at Wesleyan Invitational
Middletown, CT --- The WPI men’s track and field team had a successful day competing in the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. Josh Brodin finished second in the 5000 run with a time of 15:49.74. Chris Farren was second in the weight throw, with a distance of 49 feet and three- quarters-of-an-inch. Tristan Richardson had a second place finish in the high jump with a 6 foot, 3.25 inch jump. Kyle Morette was second in the pole vault, with a 15 foot, one inch distance.
