WPI Wins Worcester Cup; Announces Major Award Winners
Worcester, MA --- The WPI athletic department recently honored its student-athletes and teams during its annual awards banquet. The Engineers' 20 athletic programs were each honored at the ceremony. Twelve major awards were presented, highlighting some of the best student-athletes at WPI, who excel both in their respective sports and in the classroom. The big winners included seniors Celena Dopart, who took home the Varsity Club Award and Ernie Mello, who won the Melvin G. Massucco Award

Men's Crew Closes Out 2011-12 Campaign with Strong Showing at ECACs
Worcester, MA --- WPI Men’s Crew wrapped up its 2011-2012 season with a strong performance at the ECAC Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond on Friday. The varsity eight finished second in petite final while three other boats reached their respective grand finals with the third varsity eight earning a silver medal. The varsity eight was nipped in the petite final by less than five hundredths (6:06.046) by Boston College (6:05.997).

NEWMAC Tabs Five WPI Baseball Student-Athletes to All-Academic Squad
Babson Park, MA --- Senior John Flynn was named to the NEWMAC Baseball All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year in a release today from the conference. With five honorees, WPI matches Springfield for the second-highest total in the conference. Senior Brandon Boucher and junior Paul Finn both made the squad for the second time, while junior Alberto Mateo and sophomore Joey Botelho (East Providence, RI) made the list for the first time.

Minor Tabbed Baseball First Team All-NEWMAC
Babson Park, MA --- WPI senior pitcher Sean Minor has been selected first-team All-NEWMAC following voting at the annual coaches meeting held today at Clark. It marks the second straight season that the right hander has earned accolades from the seven-team conference as he also garnered first team honors as a junior in 2011. Minor paced WPI and shares the NEWMAC lead with seven wins this season. The right-hander posted a record of 7-3 this with a stellar 2.71 ERA while logging a near league best 69.2 innings of work.

NEWMAC Best Six on Softball Academic All-Conference Team
Babson Park, MA --- WPI seniors Erin Flaherty, Allie Hardy and Allie Roche all landed the trifecta, earning their third consecutive NEWMAC Softball All-Academic Team honors in an announcement by the conference. With six total players making the All-Academic team, the Crimson and Gray tie conference regular-season champion Springfield for the most in the NEWMAC. Erin Beaulieu made the team for the second straight year, while Janelle MacLaughlin and Juliana Fekete made their first appearances on the team.

Flaherty, DiFelice and Bumila Pick Up NEWMAC Softball All-Conference Accolades
Babson Park, MA --- WPI softball players Erin Flaherty, Lauren DiFelice and Katie Bumila have been named to the NEWMAC All-Conference second team as announced by the league on Monday. The trio of honorees marks the just the third time in school history, and the first time since 1994, that the Engineers received three all-conference selections. WPI had a record-setting season as a team, winning 24 games this spring and qualifying for the NEWMAC Tournament for the first time since 2009.

WPI Weekly Athletics Update #32
The entire Men's Crew team and the Women's Crew Varsity Eight have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. All four Men's Crew boats made it to the grand finals as the team finished third overall at the New England Championships. The Women's Crew Varsity Eight crossed the finish line first to claim the petite final after finishing fourth in the morning heat.

Worcester, MA --- The WPI Men's Crew program saw all four of its boats qualify for their respective grand finals en route to a third place showing overall at the New England Championships on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday. The second varsity eight earned a silver medal while the varsity eight was sixth and third varsity eight and novice eight both placed fourth. WPI wraps up its 2012 campaign at the ECAC Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond on Friday, May 11th.

Women's Crew Posts a Pair of Victories in Petite Finals at New England Championships
Worcester, MA --- WPI Women’s Crew captured the petite final in two different races at the New England Championships on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday. The Engineers claimed afternoon victories in the varsity eight and third varsity eight while the second varsity eight, who had logged a third placing showing in the morning, finished fourth in its petite final. WPI now turns its attention to the season-ending ECAC Invitational, which will be held on Friday, May 11th on Lake Quinsigamond.

DeChristofaro, Galloway Help Men's Track & Field to Tenth Place Finish at New England Championships
Cambridge, MA --- The WPI Men’s Track and Field finished tenth this past weekend at the 2012 Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT. Leading the charge for the Crimson and Gray were Wesley DeChristofaro and Jameel Galloway. DeChristofaro was second in the long jump (22-1), seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.36) and eighth in the triple jump (44-0). Galloway’s 6-6 in the high jump was third-best on the day.

Hewey Leads Women's Track and Field at New England Championships
Cambridge, MA --- Vicky Hewey placed fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:03.58) and ninth in the 5000-meter run (18:09.69) to lead the WPI women’s track and field team to a 15th place finish at the 2012 Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday.
