September 30, 2014 M & M Boys (MacLeod & Murray) Guide Men's Soccer Past Anna Maria Paxton, MA --- WPI tallied a pair of goals in the final 16 minutes to defeat host Anna Maria 2-0 in a non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon. Tynan MacLeod broke up the scoreless game in the 74th minute, as he tapped in a pass from Kurt Naugler that ran the length of the goal line. September 27, 2014 | Deja Vu All Over Again - Volleyball Splits for the Third Straight Saturday Worcester, MA --- Sydney Carfagno totaled 33 kills as Wellesley swept a Saturday afternoon volleyball tri-match at WPI’s Harrington Auditorium on Saturday. The Blue defeated WPI in the NEWMAC match 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) before defeating Westfield State by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-21) count in the middle contest. Host WPI exacted revenge over Westfield State, knocking off the Owls 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) after falling two weeks ago at the Trinity Tournament. >>
September 27, 2014 | Men's Soccer Tripped Up by Late Goal at Nationally-Ranked Wheaton Norton, MA --- Senior back Ben Altneu pushed Wheaton’s unbeaten streak to ten-straight matches with his sixth career game-winning goal in the 81st minute of the contest as the Lyons edged WPI, 1-0, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field. Wheaton, ranked No. 14 overall in the latest D3soccer.com national poll and No. 18 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national rankings, improved to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the NEWMAC with today’s win. September 27, 2014 | Football Falls to Rival RPI in Annual Transit Trophy Game Troy, NY --- Running back Mike Tivinis rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Andrew Franks booted a two field goals, including a 51-yarder, as host Rensselaer took back the Transit Trophy with a 27-6 victory over WPI on Saturday evening. It was just the second win in five years in the rivalry for RPI, as WPI claimed the trophy last year with a 27-14 win in Worcester. Worcester’s Engineers scored its only touchdown early in the fourth quarter when Jacob Grills found Joe Igoe on a four-yard touchdown pass. >>
September 27, 2014 | MIT's Second Half Surge Dooms Field Hockey Cambridge, MA --- The MIT field hockey team scored twice during the first 12 minutes of the second half and then added two more goals with less than three minutes left in regulation en route to a 4-0 victory over NEWMAC rival WPI on Saturday afternoon. Senior Elizabeth Dethy led the way for MIT with two goals and an assist as the squad improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in league action. WPI, meanwhile, saw its record lower to 6-2 on the year and 1-1 in the NEWMAC. >>
September 27, 2014 | Joe Kelly Guides WPI Men's Cross Country to Runner Up at Worcester City Meet Paxton, MA --- Led by a trio of top 10 finishes by senior Joe Kelly, junior Anthony Gallo and sophomore Michael McMahon, the WPI men’s cross country team finished second at the annual Worcester City Meet hosted by Worcester State at Moore State Park on Saturday morning. Assumption totaled 36 points to unseat the 20-time defending champions, who were resting their top runners in preparation for next week’s Paul Short Run at Lehigh. >>
September 27, 2014 | Women's Cross Country Places Sixth at Worcester City Meet Paxton, MA --- The WPI women’s cross country team placed sixth in the annual Worcester City Meet on Saturday morning hosted by Worcester State at Moore State Park. Assumption snapped the Engineers streak of six consecutive titles with 25 points. The Crimson and Gray, who are in the midst of a four weekend stretch of competition, rested their top runners in advance of next week’s Paul Short Run at Lehigh. >>
September 27, 2014 | TELEGRAM FEATURE: Strong start for WPI field hockey squad WORCESTER — It's been a near-perfect month of September for the Worcester Polytechnic Institute field hockey team. Coached by Lisa Moreau, WPI has won six of its seven games so far. The Engineers close out their September schedule at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at noon Sept. 27. Last week, WPI pulled out a dramatic 2-1 win over Smith College in the second overtime for victory No. 6 on the season. September 25, 2014 | Football Set to Face RPI for the Transit Trophy - What is the Transit Trophy? The 108th football meeting between rivals WPI and Rensselaer will take place Saturday evening at 7pm in Troy. RPI enjoys a 56-46-5 advantage in the series but WPI has won three of the last four meetings, including a 27-14 victory last season in Worcester. The coveted Transit Trophy will be on the line. RPI sports a 22-11-1 mark since the trophy was first awarded in 1980. Read below for more information on this unique college football trophy. >>
September 25, 2014 | Volleyball Tripped Up on the Road by League-Leading Coast Guard New London, CT --- Junior Ashley Dumont had ten kills while sophomore Susan West added eight kills leading Coast Guard, ranked 7th in New England to a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) over WPI in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game. Freshman Melissa Daigle led WPI (8-7, 0-4) with ten kills to go with five digs while freshman Brooke Klepper hit .438 with eight kills and just one error for the Engineers. Sophomore Shay Feeley had a match-high 25 assists in the loss. >>

But with a regular schedule of maintenance and upkeep, WPI keeps its student athletes playing on top-notch surfaces.This summer both Alumni Field and the Harrington basketball courts received major upgrades, expertly planned by the Facilities and Athletics departments to avoid disrupting the annual camps and events. >>
