Four to Compete at NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field Championships
Worcester, MA --- For the second season in a row, the WPI Women’s Track and Field team will be sending four student-athletes to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Memorial Day weekend. Seniors Noelle Richard, Julie Eagle and Adrianna Davis and sophomore Laura Pumphrey will represent the Engineers at the event hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. All four WPI athletes will be action on Friday, the middle day of the three-day event.

Botelho and Cote Garner Baseball NEWMAC All-Academic Honors
Babson Park, MA --- Two WPI baseball student-athletes have been named Academic All-NEWMAC by the conference. Junior Joey Botelho earned his second selection while sophomore Matthew Cote was tabbed for the first time. Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2012 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

LeGacy Announces Retirement from WPI Softball
Worcester, MA --- After 13 years with the WPI softball program including the last 6 years as head coach, George LeGacy has announced his retirement. LeGacy won 101 games for WPI, including his 100th just last month in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Smith. He guided the Crimson and Gray to two of their three highest win totals, including a school-best 24-16 mark in 2012.

WPI Wins Worcester Cup; Announces Major Award Winners
Worcester, MA --- The WPI athletic department recently honored its 20 varsity teams with over 600 student-athletes and teams during its annual awards banquet. Twelve major awards were presented, highlighting some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI, who excel both in their respective sports and in the classroom. The top honorees included seniors Shane Sampson, who took home the Melvin G. Massucco Award and Noelle Richard, who won the Varsity Club Award.

Varsity Eight Wins Petite Finals for Men's Rowing at ECAC National Invitational
Worcester, MA --- In its final competition of the season, the WPI men’s varsity had eight arguably its finest performance of the day on Sunday at the ECAC National Rowing Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond. The Engineers captured the petite finals while seeing the second and third varsity eights place fourth and third in their respective petite events. The varsity eight turned in a time of 6:01.953, ahead of Bucknell, Boston College, New Hampshire, Wesleyan and Ithaca.

Women's Rowing Competes at the ECAC National Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond
Worcester, MA --- A late Ithaca surge in the petite finals of Women’s Varsity Eight will make it very difficult for WPI Women’s Rowing team to reach the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history. The Crimson and Gray finished second in the race Sunday at the ECAC National Invitational while the Second Varsity Eight was also second in the petite finals and the Third Varsity Eight capped its outstanding season with a fourth place showing in the Grand Final.

WPI Announces 2013 Summer Sports Camps
This summer, WPI will once again host Sports Camps for kids entering grades (fall 2013) 2 through 11. Programs include baseball, boys basketball, co-ed soccer, rowing, and a girls soccer academy. Each camp is staffed by coaches of our varsity sports programs. WPI Sports Camps are designed to develop and strengthen skills of all levels. Registration begins February 8, 2013

Pumphrey, Davis and Relays Highlight Strong Showing for Track and Field at All-NE's
Easton, MA --- Laura Pumphrey became the first WPI woman to win an event at the All-New England All-Divisions Championships when she cleared 5-7 in the high jump on Saturday. Adrianna Davis crushed her own school standard in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.37 and likely punched her ticket to the NCAA Division III Championships. The senior posted the fourth best time in the preliminaries on Friday before turning her attention to WPI’s 145th graduation on Saturday.

Venditti Takes Home NEWMAC Baseball Rookie of the Year Award
Wellesley, MA --- WPI freshman Alex Venditti has been named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in voting announced today by the conference. The first baseman joins NEWMAC Player of the Year, Eric Jensen, and Pitcher of the Year, Alec Palioca of Wheaton and Coach of the Year, Andy Barlow of MIT in receiving top billing from the league. Venditti burst onto the collegiate baseball season by smacking five home runs this spring, second most in the conference.

Football to Host Alumni Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 8th
Worcester, MA --- The 2013 WPI Football Alumni Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 8 at the Heritage Country Club in Charlton, MA at 1:00pm. The event will be a shot-gun start featuring prizes, raffles, and a dinner in the evening. Registration begins at noon. Children's Hospital of Boston and the Vandette Family Fund will each receive 10% of the net proceeds from this year's outing.

Pumphrey Leads Women's Track and Field to Best Finish in New England D3 History
Waterville, ME --- Sophomore Laura Pumphrey led WPI to a program-best seventh place finish in the New England Division III Championships at Colby as she garnered the New England title in the high jump Saturday afternoon. Pumphrey leapt 5-6, while teammate Julie Eagle placed third in the same event soaring 5-4.25, qualifying both for All-New England honors. The Crimson and Gray tallied 45 points on the day behind top finisher MIT with 126.50 points.
