Volleyball Defeats Simmons 3-0

Boston, MA --- Junior setter Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) dealt out 14 assists and senior Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) tied a match high with eight kills as WPI defeated Simmons College 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-22) in the Shark's season-opening volleyball match tonight at the Holmes Sports Center. WPI is now 2-4 on the season.
Simmons (0-1) trailed 29-22 in the second game and with sophomore Jessica Hambleton(Mathuen, MA) serving, ran off five straight points to narrow the margin. But, the Engineers, who also downed the Sharks in their season opener last year, held on for the win.
Freshmen Nicole Loring and Taylor Pederson each had eight kills for the Sharks, while senior Marissa Rousselle (West Warwick, RI) had 17 digs. Freshman Rachel Heller recorded 12 assists in her first collegiate match.
Simmons travels to Mount Holyoke on Saturday, Sept. 8 for a 1:00 p.m. match. WPI will also be on the road traveling to Mount Ida on Wednesday. The match will start at 6pm.
