WPI loses to Mount Holyoke 3-0

South Hadley, MA --- Senior setter Rachel West (St. Paul, MN) distributed a season-best 33 assists, as the Mount Holyoke College women's volleyball team blanked New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe WPI 3-0 (30-28, 30-25, 30-26) this evening at the Mildred Howard Gymnasium. It was the Lyons second win in a row and first in league play this season. 

Trailing 28-23 in the first game, Mount Holyoke ran off the next seven points to take a 1-0 edge. From there, the hosts cruised, taking games two and three by scores of 30-25 and 30-26, respectively. 

Three Lyons had at least nine kills in a balanced offensive attack. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Tracy (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) led the way with ten, while sophomores Kendall Burns (Houston, TX) and Teresa Campbell (Williamsburg, VA) added nine apiece. Burns was also solid on the defensive end, recording 12 digs. Junior libero Kathryne Schwartz (Ridgewood, NJ) collected a team-high 13 digs, while first year outside hitter Rosa Murruffo (Tulsa, OK) chipped in with ten digs and four service aces. 

WPI was paced by sophomore outside hitter Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) who tallied nine kills and 21 digs. Senior outside hitter Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) contributed seven kills, 12 digs and three service aces, while junior middle hitter Christina Grant (Mansfield, MA) added ten kills. Rounding things out for the Engineers was junior setter Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) who dished out 28 assists. 

Mount Holyoke (4-7, 1-4 NEWMAC) will participate in the Seven Sisters Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Vassar College. WPI (8-13, 1-4 NEWMAC) will return to action on Thursday, when it hosts Pine Manor College for a non-conference clash beginning at 7:00pm.
