Wheaton Posts Shutout over WPI Field Hockey 3-0

Box ScoreWorcester, MA --- Three different players tallied goals to help visiting Wheaton defeat WPI 3-0 in NEWMAC field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons are now 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in NEWMAC play while WPI falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT) got Wheaton on the scoreboard 17:28 into the first half when she knocked home a feed from Julia Atwood (Concord, MA).
The Lyons gave themselves some breathing room when then tallied a pair of goals 1:24 apart late in the second half. Jessica Strock (Centerville, MA) found the back of the net with 7:51 remaining before Alex Block (Saratoga, CA) closed out the scoring with 6:37 left in the game. Both goals were assisted off the stick of Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME).
Wheaton freshman goalkeeper Cameron Able (Windham, NH) was credited with one save en route to picking up her second shutout of the year. WPI netminder Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) notched eight saves for the Engineers.
The Crimson and Gray were aided by defensive saves from Maggie Elbag (Rutland, MA, Sarah White (Portland, ME) and Meganne Chiasson (North Andover, MA).
On the day, Wheaton enjoyed an 18-3 edge in shots while holding a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Both squads will return to action with non-conference games on Tuesday at 4pm. WPI will venture to Leicester, MA to face Becker while Wheaton entertains Wesleyan.
