Depth helps Brandeis men to second at Poyau Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. -- With just one winning performance, the Brandeis University men used their depth to secure second place out of nine teams at today's Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational.

Brandeis's lone win came in the triple jump, where senior Mark Bercy (Randolph, Mass.) set a personal best with a leap of 44 feet, 1 1/4 inches (13.44 meters). Bercy also scored in three other events, placing second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.38 seconds, third in the long jump at 19 feet, 9 1/2 inches (6.03 meters) and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.40 seconds.

The Judges had four other second-place finishes. Sophomore Shyam Vimal (Lexington, Mass.) was runner-up to Bercy in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, 10 inches (12.75 meters), while rookie Brian McDonald (Hanover, Mass.) was second in the 3000-meter run in 9:00.37.
