Heather Hassett Scores Hat Trick To Lead WPI Over Regis, 10-0

Box ScoreWorcester, MA --- Senior forward Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA) registered a hat trick and junior forward Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) scored twice and added three assists as WPI defeated Regis 10-0 in non-conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers (4-0) remain undefeated while Regis drops to 0-4.
WPI got on the board when sophomore midfielder Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) feed a quick pass to Hassett at 17:54. Three minutes later the Engineers scored again when junior forward Sarah Tracy (Oakland, ME) knocked home a pass from Maglione.
Nursing a 2-0 lead at the intermission, the Crimson and Gray received goals from six different players in the second half including the first career goal for Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, MA) and the first of the season from sophomore Lindsay Mullins (Ashburnham, MA).
WPI goalkeepers Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester , MA) and Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) shared time in the net in the shutout. Neither were called upon to make a save. Their counterpart, Regis goalkeeper Kristen Tavares, (Acushnet, MA) made 12 saves and freshman Kelsey Baker (Salem, MA) tallied an eye-popping four defensive saves.
The Engineers play their next game Thursday on the road versus Bridgewater State . The match-up, which features two unbeaten squads, will begin at 4pm. Regis will have its home opener on Thursday when they entertain Elms in a contest also beginning at 4pm.
