Westfield defeats WPI Women's Soccer 4-1

Westfield, MA - Freshman forward Kate MacLellan (Wilbraham, MA) had three goals and an assist to power Westfield State to a 4-1 victory over WPI in a non-conference women's soccer game on Wednesday evening, Sept. 19.

MacLellan, who has a team high 16 points (7 goals, 2 assists), scored twice in a 2:19 span early in the first half on assists from sophomore forward Meg Gearin (Groton, MA). Both goals came off rebounds of shots taken by Gearin.

WPI only had two shots in the game but one of them was a goal by freshman forward Kristen Garza (Kingston, MA) 1:45 into the second half to make the score 2-1.

But Westfield struck quickly again on goals by Gearin and MacLellan at the 48:17 and 49:00 minute marks. MacLellan assisted on Gearin's goal and junior midfielder Jenn Leveille (Southampton, MA) assisted on MacLellan hat trick goal.

Elizabeth Glasson (Worcester, MA) collected seven saves for the Enginners while Nicole Decampo (Stoneham, MA) added one.
