Worcester, MA --- Sophomore goalkeeper Steve Hoffer (Lake Placid, NY) picked up his first career victory in WPI's 2-0 shutout over visiting Anna Maria in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The win was the first of the season for WPI (1-2) while Anna Maria falls to 2-1.
The Engineers broke into the scoring column late in the first half when Evan Demers-Peel (Norton, MA) scored following a long pass from fellow reserve Mike Ford (Whitman, MA). The Crimson and Gray extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 75th minute when Ben Gilde (Manchester, NH) tallied his second goal of the season off a feed from Jason Gray (Carver, MA).
Hoffer tallied three saves on the day including stopping a key breakaway midway through the second half. Anna Maria goalkeeper Scott Burokas (Auburn, MA) was also solid in net, turning away five shots.
