Garza Notches Pair of Goals Lead WPI Past Coast Guard

Box ScoreNew London, CT --- Freshman Kristen Garza (Plymouth, MA) scored both WPI goals leading the Engineers to a 2-1 win over Coast Guard in a NEWMAC women's soccer match on Tuesday evening.
Coast Guard (1-13, 0-7) got on the board first as junior Jen Ferreira fed classmate Mary Morgan (Littel Silver, NJ) who scored giving the Bears a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
Garza tied the match, scoring on a scramble in front of the goal in the 36th minute and game remained tied going into halftime.
Garza scored the eventual game winner in the 70th minute with junior Jocelyn Moody (Bainbridge Island, WA) assisting for the Engineers (7-8, 3-4). The rookie now has 15 goals and 33 points on the season, extending the WPI single-season records she established two weeks ago.
For the match, WPI outshot Coast Guard 15-9.
Senior Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA) made four saves to record the win in goal for WPI while Coast Guard junior Trish Ohle (Franklin Lakes, NJ) made seven saves for the Bears, who have dropped nine straight.
WPI returns to action on Saturday with a road match at nationally ranked Wheaton at 1pm.
