VISION STATEMENT (Adopted May 2009):

WPI Athletics will be a top performing, valued program for the university that will provide a high quality experience for all involved.

GOAL 1: OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES WILL HAVE A HIGH QUALITY EXPERIENCE.

WPI will provide staffing levels appropriate for the needs of a high quality Division III athletic program for our student-athletes to receive the quality attention, direction and leadership needed for success.  Our coaches will be focused to recruit, lead and develop top quality student-athletes that will excel at WPI in the classroom and in competition.  Our student-athletes will be well-rounded members of the WPI community who our staff, faculty and alumni will enjoy having represent our university.

GOAL 2: OUR COACHING STAFF WILL BE SUPPORTED IN THE IMPORTANT WORK THEY DO.

Our coaching staff will have appropriate responsibilities, salaries and funding to achieve excellence and provide a quality experience for our student-athletes and the university.  We will be committed to continual professional development to learn, grow and develop in meeting the ever-changing demands of a quality Division III athletic program and the expectations of the university.

GOAL 3:  WPI ATHLETICS WILL BE WELL MANAGED AND FUNDED APPROPRIATELY.

Our athletic program will have the necessary administrative support and operational budget to manage effectively a high quality athletic program that excels.

GOAL 4:  WPI ATHLETICS WILL BE ETHICAL AND COMPETITIVE AND STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE CLASSROOM, IN COMPETITION AND IN THE COMMUNITY.

Our student-athletes and coaches will represent the best of the university and reflect the commitment to excellence in all that we do.  We will contribute to the vibrant campus life of the university, engage our alumni and do important, needed work in the Worcester community.  In competition, we will align ourselves with schools that will provide fair competition and be like minded in our commitment to the student and athlete.  We will strive for championships and national recognition while also remaining firmly committed to GPA and graduation rates that are the same or better than the general student population. We will be committed to growth and development in our work, management and leadership so that we reflect well upon the university and are prepared for the future needs and demands of a high quality Division III athletics program.

GOAL 5: OUR ATHLETIC FACILITIES WILL BE OF HIGH QUALITY TO REPRESENT EXCELLENCE AND THE UNIVERSITY WELL.

WPI will continue to provide the high quality facilities (on-campus and off-campus as needed) to properly support a successful athletic program and allow our coaches and student-athletes to perform at their best.  Our facilities will remain on par with our competitor schools and be emblematic of the university’s commitment and desire for excellence in our athletic program.
