Shawn McAvey serves as the Facilities Manager at WPI, a position
he has held since 2007. He has also served as Equipment Manager
since 2002.
McAvey is responsible for maintaining the WPI athletic facilities
and equipment as well as taking an active role in contest
management.
McAvey came to WPI in May 1990 as the Assistant Equipment Manager,
serving under long time WPI Equipment Manager Jan Bialonozka. Upon
Jan's retirement, McAvey took over as Equipment Manager in
2002.
A Worcester native, McAvey is a graduate of North High School in
Worcester. Upon graduation, he moved on to serve in the U.S. Navy
for five years before returning to Worcester. Since his return, he
has been active in running his family's business, Mrs. Mack's
Bakery in Worcester.
