Venice, FL --- Junior Conor Fahey (Cumberland, RI) tossed a three-hit gem to help the WPI baseball team to a 3-0 win over a talented St. Joseph's (ME) team in Venice, Florida.  The victory kicked off the Engineer's eleven-game spring break schedule.

Fahey was outstanding for the Crimson and Gray in his first outing of the season, allowing just three hits while striking out five in seven innings of work versus a Monks team that has appeared in the last two NCAA Tournaments.  The offense got its wheels turning in the third inning when Paul Galligan (Weymouth, MA) scored on Bryan Watkin's (Belmont, MA) sacrifice fly to go ahead 1-0.  The Engineers tripled their lead in the sixth inning when Ethan Brown (Lunenburg, MA) singled to lead off the frame and just two batters later came around to score on a Mark Dignum (Albany, NY) double. Dignum would extend the lead to 3-0 on a passed ball later in the inning.

In game two, the Engineers ripped 11 hits including a triple and home-run from Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA) but fell to St. Joseph's 10-7.  McNee was 2-for-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored.  Cody McGregor (Westfield, MA) and Joe Walsh (Weymouth, MA) each had two hits apiece for the Crimson and Gray.

Pitcher Brian Duncan (West Suffield, CT) was credited with the loss, allowing seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.  Sophomore Alex Hansen (Burlington, CT) tossed 1 1/3 innings, yielding one run while classmate Jason Forte (Carlisle, MA) allowed two runs in one inning.

The Crimson and Gray return to the diamond on Monday with a doubleheader versus Muskingum (OH).  First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 at South County Park.
