Mike Ball

Trinity 10, WPI 2

Box Score

Worcester, MA --- Nationally ranked and undefeated Trinity tallied multiple runs in the first four innings en route to posting a 10-2 victory over host WPI in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.  The Bantams, ranked eighth in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25, improve to 16-0 while WPI slips to 10-10.

Trinity received excellent production from the middle of its lineup as Sean Killeen (Greenfield, MA), Kent Graham (Longmeadow, MA) and James Wood (Windham, NH) combined to go 6-for-13 with four runs scored and six driven in.  Wood capped a two-run first with an RBI single while Killeen and Graham highlighted a three-run second with a run-producing triple and single respectively.  Leadoff hitter Ryan Piacentini (Portland, ME) chipped in by going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, a stolen base and a hit by pitch.

Jonathan Rappaport (Longmeadow, MA), the designated pitcher of record, picked up the win for the Bantams, allowing just one earned run over the first three innings to improve to 2-0.  Trinity received six solid innings from its bullpen, including three from Derek Anderson (Great Falls, VA), two from Eric McGrath (Lynn, MA) and an inning from Andrew Janiga (Ellington, CT).

The WPI bullpen was also an area of strength.  The trio of Mike Ball (Waltham, MA), Justin Skelly (Derby, CT) and Carson Cook (Needham, MA) combined to allow just one run in 5 2/3 innings of work.   Ball particularly stood out, tossing 3 2/3 innings of quality relief.  Starter Lyle Miller (Milford, CT) took the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season.

The Engineers posted single runs in the third and fourth innings via an RBI single off the bat of Mark Dignum (Albany, NY) and a RBI groundout from Jonathan Quintero (Miami, FL).

WPI returns to the diamond on Thursday with a NEWMAC home contest against league leading and nationally ranked Wheaton at 3:30pm.  Trinity opens a three-game NESCAC home series versus Bates with a single nine-inning game on Friday at 3pm.
