Box Score

Auburndale, FL --- WPI Baseball dropped a 12-2 decision to Wentworth on Thursday afternoon at the Russmatt Baseball Central Florida Invitational.  With the loss the Engineers dip to 2-3 on the season.

After Wentworth jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first, WPI answered back in the bottom of the frame thanks to a Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA) double to knock in Mike Swanton (Foxboro, MA) who had gotten aboard via a walk.

Wentworth took a 2-1 lead in the top of third but once again the Engineers responded in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at two.  Watkins led off the inning with a double to left center and came around to score two batters later on a Swanton single to left center.

The Leopards took over from there, scoring ten runs through the next four innings to take a commanding 12-2 lead and the eventual win.  Nick Bean (Middleboro, MA) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Crimson and Gray while Ethan Brown (Lunenburg, MA) and Cody McGregor (Westfield, MA) also added singles.

Alex Hansen (Burlington, CT) (0-1) absorbed the loss on the mound, going 4.1 innings to allow nine runs (four earned) on seven hits while fanning five.  Lyle Miller (Milford, CT) recorded three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief while Jonathan Quintero (Miami, FL) yielded three runs on four hits in one inning of work.

WPI Baseball is back in action on Thursday when they face off against Fitchburg State at 9:30am in Winter Haven, Florida.
