Fahey Takes NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year to Highlight Four All-Conference Selections

Conor Fahey
Babson Park, MA --- WPI senior starting pitcher Conor Fahey (Cumberland, RI) has been selected as this year's NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year, capping off four straight years as an all-conference player for the Engineers. The senior has also been a second team selection twice and a first-team honoree once, to go along with his 2006 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year award.
Fahey leads the NEWMAC in virtually every starting pitcher statistical category, including ERA (1.24), wins (7), strikeouts (96), innings pitched (80) and batting average against (.186). The senior has been even more impressive in conference play, compiling a 5-0 record with an 0.58 ERA and 54 strikeouts. The right-hander has yielded just 11 walks and 55 hits in 80 innings pitched, while tallying an eye-popping 96 strikeouts over that span. Fahey has also lifted the WPI bullpen when needed by collecting two saves including the final eight outs of WPI's road victory over defending national champion Trinity.
Along with Fahey, senior outfielder Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA) received all-NEWMAC First Team honors. McNee is in the top four in the NEWMAC in five offensive statistical categories including runs scored (39), home runs (7), hit by pitches (11), stolen bases (14) and doubles (10). The senior leads the Engineers in on-base percentage (.464), batting average (.377) and extra base hits (17). McNee, who has posted career-highs in runs scored and stolen bases, is also tied for the team lead in sacrifice flies.
Freshmen Nick Bean (Middleboro, MA) and Mitch McClune (Pembroke, MA) were selected to the all-NEWMAC second team. Bean, among the league leaders in hits (47), has scored 28 runs to go along with six doubles, two home runs and five steals and leads WPI in batting in conference games (.354). McClune has tallied a team-best 13 RBI in 11 NEWMAC games and ranks second in the conference in home runs (4) and slugging percentage (.853) in NEWMAC contests.
The Engineers currently sport a 23-11 record and will host their final regular season home game on Tuesday against Elms at 4:00pm. WPI was recently the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament last weekend but fell at home to nationally-ranked Wheaton on the third day of the tournament.
