Forte and Paulino Take Home Academic All-NEWMAC Baseball Honors

Babson Park, MA --- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 Baseball Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday. The WPI baseball team had two representatives this year, as junior Jason Forte (Carlisle, MA) and sophomore Madison Paulino (Worcester, MA) each were named to the all-academic team for the first time.
The Engineers finished their regular season this week, and are awaiting a bid to participate in postseason play. WPI showed an eight win jump from a year ago under head coach Mike Callahan, posting a record of 24-11 so far this season and finishing tied for first in the NEWMAC at 9-3. The Engineers have many impressive wins on their schedule this season, include a doubleheader sweep at nationally-ranked Wheaton and a win at defending national champion Trinity.
Academic All-NEWMAC honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2008 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
