Baseball's Conor Fahey and Scott McNee Honored by the ECAC

Worcester, MA --- WPI baseball players Conor Fahey (Cumberland, RI) and outfielder Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA) distinguished themselves by picking awards from the ECAC. Fahey was named ECAC New England Pitcher of the Year, while McNee picking up second team All-New England honors. The Engineer senior co-captains highlighted a season where the Crimson and Gray won a school-record 30 games and finished third at the NCAA Division III New England Regional.
Fahey, who was a first team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com All-American, had a spectacular senior campaign for the Engineers. The right-hander compiled a 8-2 record with a 1.55 ERA. His 122 strikeouts and 104.2 innings pitched led all of Division III while he ranked sixth in the nation in ERA. Earlier this spring, Fahey, a four-time all-NEWMAC selection, was named conference Pitcher of the Year and first team All-New England.
The senior and most decorated pitcher in the 106-year history of WPI baseball, arguably made his biggest impact at the NCAA Division III New England regional. Fahey earned all-tournament honor's after starting two games in a four-day span, including throwing 163 pitches on two days rest against nationally-ranked (#3) Eastern Connecticut. He shared the tournament lead with 16 innings pitched and was second with 18 strikeouts. Including the ECAC championship game victory against 30-win Worcester State the weekend before the NCAA's, Fahey threw an eye-popping 414 pitches during a pressure-filled eight-day span.
McNee, the 2008 NEWMAC Player of the Year, had an excellent senior season. Primarily used as a right fielder, the senior paced the strong Engineer offensive attack with a team-best 12 homers, 49 runs scored and 44 runs batted in. McNee also led the Engineers in batting average (.393), on-base percentage (.478), slugging percentage (.727), doubles (12) and stolen bases (15).
The two-time first team All-NEWMAC selection placed in the top five in the NEWMAC in ten offensive statistical categories including runs scored (tied for 1st), home runs (tied for 1st), hit by pitches (1st), total bases (1st), slugging percentage (2nd), stolen bases (2nd), RBI (3rd), doubles (4th), batting average (5th) and hits (tied for 5th).
Their standout senior campaigns capped a pair of outstanding careers. Fahey is WPI's all-time leader in wins (27), ERA (2.54), strikeouts (325) and innings pitched (308.2). McNee tied for the career mark in home runs (28) while batting at an impressive .349 clip. He amassed 136 runs batted in to go along with 128 runs scored and 40 doubles.
This spring the Engineers won a school-record 30 games, claiming their first-ever regular season title. They captured their second ECAC championship in three years and earned their first-ever selection to the NCAA Championships. They won their first two games at the regional before falling to a pair of teams in the top six including defending national champion Trinity (#6) and top seed and host Eastern Connecticut (#3). Fahey, McNee and fellow seniors, Ethan Brown (Lunenburg, MA), Ben Erle (Boylston, MA) and Jonathan Quintero (Miami, FL) leave WPI with 84 victories, 22 more than any class in program history.
