The University team, made up of Division I All-New England selections used at eight run eighth inning to win the game 11-0.
Fahey was joined on the College team by three other NEWMAC players included Wheaton teammates Josh Simmons (Cranston, RI) and Nick Pecora (Highland Park, NJ) and MIT's Thomas Phillips (Durham, NC). The squad was coached by George Reidy of Assumption and Ed Flaherty of Southern Maine.
Fahey, who was a first team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com All-American, had a spectacular senior campaign for the Engineers. Earlier this spring, Fahey, a four-time all-NEWMAC selection, was named conference Pitcher of the Year and first team All-New England.

He shared the tournament lead with 16 innings pitched and was second with 18 strikeouts. Including the ECAC championship game victory against 30-win Worcester State the weekend before the NCAA's, Fahey threw an eye-popping 414 pitches during a pressure-filled eight-day span.
The outing capped an outstanding career for the senior right-hander. Fahey is WPI's all-time leader in wins (27), ERA (2.54), strikeouts (325) and innings pitched (308.2). He combined with fellow seniors Scott McNee (Falmouth, MA), Ethan Brown (Lunenburg, MA), Ben Erle (Boylston, MA) and Jonathan Quintero (Miami, FL) to leave WPI with 84 total victories, 22 more than any class in program history. The 30 wins in 2009 bested the school record by six, while Engineers won the NEWMAC regular season and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
