Pair of Engineers Named to Inaugural Worcester Area Baseball All-Star Teams
Worcester, MA --- The duo of Sean Minor (Sherman Oaks, CA) and Daniel Thomas (Manchester, NH) were named to the inaugural Worcester Area Baseball All-Star squad. The two teams are comprised of student-athletes from the 10 area schools including Holy Cross and Assumption.
Minor, a first team selection, played a role in six of WPI's 12 victories on the season with five wins and a save. He earned NEWMAC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after a shutout 2-0 over MIT. The junior added league victories over Springfield and Clark and registered a save against Coast Guard. Minor led the Engineers with 49 strikeouts in 54.2 innings and limited opponents to a .208 batting average.
Thomas emerged as WPI's top hitter during his first season as an everyday player en route to the second team nod. The junior batted .359 to lead the Engineers and made only one error on 245 chances at first base. The sophomore led the conference in the regular season with five home runs while currently placing in the top 10 in six other offensive categories including slugging percentage (third - .641), doubles (ninth - nine), walks (fifth - 23), on-base percentage (third - .487), batting average (10th) and stolen bases (ninth - seven). He is one of only two players in league to be in the top 10 in both home runs and stolen bases.
The Engineers finished their season with a 12-21 record and 7-11 in the NEWMAC.
