Northboro, MA --- Junior Wily Boyd (Orleans, MA) batted 2-for-5 with a three-run homer as Wheaton defeated host WPI, 10-6, Tuesday in a single NEWMAC contest at the New England Baseball Complex.

The Lyons dented the scoreboard in the second thanks to a two-out blast by sophomore Trevor Marques (Lincoln, RI). Two innings later, Engineer sophomore Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) sent an RBI double to left center and junior Josh Herlands (Glastonbury, CT) drove another in with a single up the middle.

The lead was short lived as the guests put up six in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Bryant Salkind (Rochester, MA) began the scoring with a 2-RBI double to right.
Junior Jared Sharkey (West Bridgewater, MA) crossed the dish thanks to a single, and a miscue on the play, off the bat of classmate Conor Gammond (Spring Lake, NJ). Boyd followed with the three-run swing for the 7-2 advantage.

Patterson clubbed a two-run double down the left field line before an out was recorded in the home half of the sixth. Senior Chris Rucocco (Lexington, MA) and Salkind sandwiched an RBI double by sophomore Nick Raposo (Johnston, RI) with sacrifice flies to make it a 10-4 game in the seventh. WPI inched closer with a productive out by senior Matt Howard (Worcester, MA) in the eighth and a run-producing double down the right field line by junior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) in the ninth.

Tropeano (double), senior Evan Lacroix (Methuen, MA) and Patterson (2 doubles) collected two hits apiece. Juniors Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) and Austin Lindner (W. Windsor, NJ) also doubled for WPI. Junior starting pitcher Tyler Weiss (Monroe, CT) fanned three batters.

Boyd (HR), Raposo (double) and senior Matt Cook (Harwich, MA) totaled six hits. Sharkey and senior Ryan McKeon (Johnston, RI) chipped in with doubles. Freshman Gavin Reily (Bridgewater, MA) struck out seven in an eight-inning effort. Sophomore Zach Pipa (Rumford, RI) finished the game for the guests.

WPI (11-14, 2-8 NEWMAC) hosts the first game of the weekend NEWMAC series with Coast Guard Friday at 3:30pm. Wheaton (11-12, 6-4) hosts Suffolk tomorrow at 4pm.
