Entering his third season as head baseball coach, Mike Callahan has already made his mark on the WPI program.  Under his tutelage, the Engineers won a school record 24 games a year ago and capped their season by winning the ECAC Division III New England Championship, the first postseason title in the 104-year history of the program.

Named interim head coach just a month prior to the start of the 2006 campaign, Callahan saw the interim tag removed during the middle of a 14 victory season, nearly doubling the win total from 2005.  The Crimson and Gray played their best ball at the end of the season when they reached the winner's bracket championship game of the NEWMAC Tournament, which was eventually won by NCAA Division III national championship finalist Wheaton.

Callahan came to WPI after a two-year stint as head coach at Leicester High School. He compiled a 29-16 record over the two years and helped guide the Wolverines to the Central Mass Division III semifinals in 2004.

"We are extremely happy to have Mike on our staff," said Dana L. Harmon, WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics "His success in coaching and as a standout collegiate player is a great addition to our baseball program."

Callahan was a four-year starter on the Franklin Pierce baseball team. During his senior season in 2003, he was the captain on a team that reached the Division II College World Series. Callahan had a tremendous postseason for the Ravens as he was named to the Northeast Regional and College World Series All-Tournament teams and led the CWS in batting average (.591). He earned All-Northeast 10 honors as a junior in 2002 under head coach Jayson King.

Callahan, a native of Worcester, played high school baseball at St. Peter Marian.  Until recently he was the owner and general manger of the Homerun Club, an indoor baseball and softball facility in Worcester. The last eight summers Callahan has been the associate head coach for manager Mark Peters with East Side American Legion Post 201 of Worcester.   He is joined on the staff by his pitching coach Dan Generelli and WPI SID Rusty Eggen.  Around the Legion baseball circuit, Callahan is affectionately known as Raider #2.

Dan Generelli

Pitching Coach - Assistant Baseball Coach

Dan Generelli enters his third season as Assistant Baseball Coach and Pitching Coach for Engineers baseball.

The Worcester native has enjoyed an illustrious career both on the mound and as a coach. Generelli is a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School in 1998 and spent one season at Quinsigamond CC in 1999 before entering the ranks of professional baseball. He was a 20th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, and spent five years in the Red Sox system, making stops with the Lowell Spinners, Gulf Coast Red Sox and Augusta Greenjackets.

Generelli moved on to the Expos organization and spent two seasons with the Vermont Expos. He also spent some time as a member of the hometown independent Worcester Tornadoes.

Following consecutive surgeries in 2004 and 2005, Generelli retired from pitching and focused on coaching.

In addition to the three years he has spent on the WPI coaching staff, he has spent six years coaching with WPI Head Coach Mike Callahan and Mike Peters with the East Side American Legion Post 201 club.
