Andrew Sides named Co-Defensive Liberty League Performer of the Week

Canton, NY --- Junior defensive back Andrew Sides has been named Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week after he set the tone defensively for WPI shutting out the US Merchant Marine Academy 35-0 this past Saturday.

Sides, a native of Acton, MA, scored the only points of the first half as he intercepted a pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. He would also finish the game with a team second-best tackles with five. The shutout for the Engineers was their first in three years (a 35-0 win over
Husson).

On the season, Sides currently leads the team in interceptions (2), is second on the team in tackles (17), and is tied for third in tackles for a loss (3). His other interception came in a 40-14 win over cross-town rival Worcester State on September 7th and it was returne 45-yards for a touchdown.

Sides shared the honor with Vito Pellerito of Union.

The Crimson and Gray continue Liberty League play as they host Hobart in their annual homecoming game at 1pm. As part of the homecoming festivities the newly renovated field will be dedicated at halftime.
