Worcester, MA --- A trio of WPI football players earned Liberty League Player of the Week honors after WPI's thrilling 34-28 five overtime road win at UMass-Dartmouth this past weekend.  Justin Wells (Jay, ME)was named Offensive Player of the Week, Stefan Nicotra (Wyoming, RI) earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Mike Egan (Hanover, MA) took home Special Teams and Rookie of the Week honors.

Wells won the game for the Engineers with a two-yard touchdown run in the fifth overtime. With his team trailing 28-20 in the third overtime period, he hit Aaron Champagne with a 12-yard touchdown then found Cody McGregor for the subsequent two point conversion. On the night, Wells completed 16-of-34 passes for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran 12 times for 41 yards, including the game-winning score.

Nicotra was all over the field in WPI's victory. The senior notched a career-high 14 tackles, including seven solo tackles. Nicotra added a half a sack, a tackle-for-loss and a pass break-up.  He shared Liberty League honors with Pete Johnsen of Susquehanna while being was one of just three linebackers nationwide (joined by Eric Keyes of Wooster (OH) and Ryan Wimmer of St. John's (MN) to be selected to D3football.com's Team of the Week.

Egan was solid in his collegiate debut. He punted eight times for a total of 285 yards for a 35.6 average, including one inside the UMass Dartmouth 20. His biggest boot came in the final 30 seconds of regulation when, with his team on their six yard line, he got off a 49-yard punt, which was fumbled by the Corsairs and recovered by WPI, giving the Engineers an opportunity to win.  Egan pull off the rare feat of winning not one but two weekly Liberty League awards in the same week.  He took home top-billing for both special teams and rookies.

WPI football has their home opener this Saturday.  The Engineers welcome cross-town rival Worcester State to Alumni Field for a 1pm start.
