Wells Selected Liberty League and ECAC NW Player of the Week

Canton, NY --- WPI senior quarterback Justin Wells has been named Liberty League Football Player of the Week. Wells, a native of Jay, ME, played a key role in WPI's hard-fought 19-16 homecoming victory over Union. His two-yard touchdown pass with 5:58 left in the game gave the Engineers a lead they would not relinquish as they defeated the Dutchmen for the first time since 1999.
Wells did damage with his arm and his legs as he not only connected on 16-of-28 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns but also added 126 yards of rushing on 15 carries. His 58-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter tied the game at 13. For his efforts, Wells was awarded the Bob Pritchard award for the Most Outstanding Back on homecoming.
It marks the second time Wells has been honored by the Liberty League. He also won on the award on September 8th after WPI defeated UMass Dartmouth in an epic five overtime contest.
The Engineers are currently 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League play. Head coach Ed Zaloom's squad is currently ranked third in New England and travel to Kings Point, NY on Saturday for a 4pm Liberty League game against the US Merchant Marine Academy.
On Tuesday, October 7th, Wells added the ECAC Division III Northwst Offensive Player of the Week honor to his lsit of awards.
