Oliveri and Swanton Earn Liberty League Football Honors

Worcester, MA --- WPI football players Michael Oliveri (Milford, MA) and Mike Swanton (Foxboro, MA) have been named Liberty League Players of the Week.  Oliveri picked up the defensive player of the week honor while Swanton shared offensive accolades with Dave Paveletz (Warrior Run, PA) of Susquehanna.

Oliveri registered a game and career-high 14 tackles, including 11 solo stops, as the Engineers began their 120th year of collegiate football with a 34-20 triumph over Salve Regina. The junior linebacker added a tackle-for-loss in the home victory.

Swanton used his arm and legs in the win over the Seahawks. The senior threw for 288 yards and a TD and ran for another score in his first collegiate start.  Swanton connected on 23-of-37 passes, including a 34-yard fourth quarter touchdown pass.  He also amassed a game-best 73 yards rushing and did not commit a turnover on the night.

WPI will look to improve to 2-0 on the season on Friday when they make the short trip to Worcester State to face the Lancers.
