      <description>Worcester, MA --- Senior QB Mike Swanton hit Nick Bean with a 16-yard TD pass in the final minute to cut the deficit to 24-21, but the comeback bid fell just short as St. Lawrence held on for a season-closing win over the Engineers on Saturday afternoon at WPI's Alumni Field. WPI finished its season at 3-7 and was held without a win in Liberty League play, falling to 0-7 in the conference.</description>

      <title>Champagne Named First Team Academic All-District For Second Straight Year</title>

      <description>Selinsgrove, PA --- Quarterback Rich Palazzi tossed five touchdowns to help Susquehanna rally from an early two touchdown deficit to defeat visiting WPI 35-21 in Liberty League football action on Saturday afternoon.  WPI signal caller Mike Swanton threw for one score and ran for another as WPI slipped to 3-6 (0-6 LL).  The Engineers will close out their 2009 season next Saturday when they host St. Lawrence at noon.</description>

      <description>Worcester, MA --- Hobart scored five rushing touchdowns, keying its 41-20 triumph over WPI in WPI's annual homecoming game on Saturday afternoon. Junior RB Aaron Champagne scored two TDs for the Engineers, while Michael Oliveri led the defense with 15 tackles and a sack. The result helped Hobart improve to 3-2 in the Liberty League and 4-3 overall. The Engineers fell to 3-5 (0-5 Liberty League).</description>

      <description>WPI sophomore running back Ernie Mello was just hanging out with friends near Stoddard Hall that night last spring when a horrific noise interrupted their wee-hour gathering. "I heard a crash, a very loud crash," Mello recalled this week. He bolted from the dormitory, looked down Institute Road, and then his instincts took over. "I ran from Stoddard," Mello said, "and I never stopped." At the bottom of the street, at the intersection of Park Avenue, a car was engulfed in flames, and the driver was trapped inside.</description>

Mitch McClune led the Engineers on the ground with 57 yards on 13 carries. Ernie Mello  gained 26 yards. Cody McGregor caught four passes for 66 yards. Chris Boudreau had 11 tackles, eight solo and Tom Thackeray had seven tackles.</description>

The loss drops WPI to 3-3 on the season and keeps the Engineers still searching for their first conference win (0-3). Merchant Marine improves to 4-2, 2-1 in league play.</description>

      <description>Worcester, MA --- On a day when the Rensselaer offense produced 288 rushing yards and six total touchdowns, it was the RPI defense that sealed the win, forcing two interceptions, a punt and a turnover on downs on WPI's four fourth-quarter drives as visiting RPI held on for a 42-33 victory in the Liberty League opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.</description>
