WPI Field Hockey Improves to 3-0 with Victory Over Regis

Weston, MA -- Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) notched a pair of goals as WPI improved to 3-0 with a 5-1 road win at Regis on Thursday afternoon. The Engineers used three goals in the final ten minutes to break open a close contest.

Johnson got WPI on the board in the 21st minute when she tallied an unassisted goal. Just minutes later Sarah Tracy (Oakland, ME) added to the WPI advantage when she knocked home a feed from Elizabeth Carey (Salem, NH) at 25:01.

Regis sliced the Engineers' lead in half when Melissa O'Donnell knocked home a goal at 27:21.

The Crimson and Gray gave themselves some breathing room in the final ten minutes. Johnson starting the scoring barrage when she successfully converted a penalty stroke with 8:25 remaining. Sarah White (Portland, ME) and Katelyn Perkins (Auburn, ME) continued the offensive flurry when they each netted unassisted goals in the final five minutes.

Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) and Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) spilt time in goal for WPI. Toomey made a save in the first half while Ray collected a pair of stops in the second stanza.

WPI will leave Boynton Hill to face Western New England in the home opener on Saturday at 4pm.
