Worcester, MA --- Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) scored on an assist from Heather Hasset (Oxford, MA) just six minutes into the first half to score the only goal of the game as WPI defeated 2005 NCAA Tournament participant Western New England 1-0 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-0 while Western New England falls to 0-3.

Defense was key for the Crimson and Gray as freshman Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) made a key defensive save to help secure the 1-0 shutout. Junior goalkeeper Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) posted the shutout in goal for WPI.

Stephanie Gildart (Portland, ME) and Amy Cunningham (LaGrangeville, NY) both notched defensive saves for the Golden Bears while goalkeeper Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) made three saves.

WPI out-shot WNEC by a 15-3 margin and also enjoyed an 8-0 advantage in penalty corners.

WPI will return to action on Thursday when they entertain Bridgewater State at 7pm, while the Golden Bears will travel to Keene State on Tuesday at 7pm.
