WPI Field Hockey Team and Eight Student-Athletes Earn National Academic Award
Worcester, MA --- Eight WPI field hockey student-athletes were named to the 2006 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad. They include - senior Jenelle Pope (Sterling, MA), juniors Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA), Katie Nehmer (Southwick, MA) and Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA), sophomore Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA), and freshman Kelly Johnson (Buxton, MA), Lindsay Mullins (Ashburnham, MA) and Katelyn Perkins (Auburn, ME),
The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2006-07 academic year. WPI was one of 86 teams nationwide to earn the NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award.
On the field in 2006, the Engineers finished 12-6 under the tutelage of NEWMAC Coach of Year Johanna DiCarlo.
