Nicole Maglione Scores Game Winner In OT Over Salve Regina, 3-2

Worcester, MA --- Junior forward Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) tallied the second of her two goals 3:12 into the first overtime to lift host WPI to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Salve Regina in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday afternoon.  In the win, the Engineers rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits.   

Salve Regina broke open a scoreless game at 31:02 on a goal scored by freshman forward Brittany Lopes (Lexington , MA). The goal was Lopes' first of her two goals in the game and she was assisted by senior midfielder Jillian Lee (Morristown , NJ).

The Engineers tied the score at 50:14 when senior midfielder Sarah Tracy (Oakland, ME) passed it to an open Maglione who found the back net to even the score at 1-1.

The Seahawks answered back when sophomore forward Samantha Wolfe (East Bridgewater, MA) found Lopes following a penalty corner at 57:51.  With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, the Crimson and Gray tied the game at 2-2 on an unassisted tally by Tracy .

Engineers goalie Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) was outstanding as she finished the game with seven saves. Her Salve Regina counterpart, Devin Eppley (Darien, CT) , was also strong, registering five stops on the day.

With the victory, WPI improved to 2-0 on the young season with Maglione tallying a pair of goals in each win.  Salve (0-2) dropped its second straight overtime contest to open the season.

WPI will hit the road for the first time on Saturday when they play at Western New England at 1pm. Salve Regina will play its next game on Thursday at 4pm at UMass Dartmouth.
