WPI Field Hockey Drops 2-1 loss to MIT

MD) and Ekavali Mishra (Washington, D.C.) each
notched goals as MIT defeated WPI 2-1 in NEWMAC field hockey action
on Tuesday evening. With the win, MIT improves to 4-7 and 1-2 in
conference play while the home-standing Engineers dip to 5-7
overall and 0-3 in NEWMAC action.
MIT scored the first goal of the game at 15:51 on a penalty stroke
fromMishra. The marker was the first of the season for Mirshra.
Oleinik extended the lead to 2-0 at 42:05 when she successfully
rebounded a shot from Christina Stefanescu
(Needham, MA) for her tenth tally of the season.
WPI’s lone goal came at 47:06 on an unassisted tally by
Stacey Mohr (Tyngsboro, MA). The goal came just
following a penalty corner and was the first of the year for the
senior tri-captain.
The match was tightly contested with WPI enjoying a 7-4 edge in
shots while MIT held a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners.
MIT netminder Alexa Herman (Suffern, NY) made
three stops on the night en route to being credited with the win.
Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) notched one save
for WPI.
Both teams will continue NEWMAC play on Saturday with 1pm matches.
WPI will travel down Park Avenue to play city-rival Clark while MIT
will host Springfield in Cambridge.
