WPI Field Hockey Team and Seven Student-Athletes Earn National Academic Award

Worcester, MA --- Seven WPI field hockey student-athletes were named to the 2007 ZAG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad. They include: seniors Heather Hassett (Oxford, MA), Katie Nehmer (Southwick, MA) and Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA), junior Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA), sophomores Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) and Lindsay Mullins (Ashburnham, MA) and freshman Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, MA).
The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. WPI was one of 83 teams nationwide to earn ZAG/NFHCA Divisoin III National Academic Team Award.
During the 2007 season, the Engineers finished with an overall record of 6-11 and a NEWMAC league mark of 1-7 under first year head coach Lisa Moreau.
