Lisa Moreau Named Head Field Hockey Coach at WPI

Lisa Moreau

Worcester, MA --- WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon announced today that Lisa Moreau has been hired as the Head Field Hockey Coach. Moreau had been the interim head coach during the 2007 campaign.

Hired just days before the start of last year's preseason, Moreau guided the Engineers to a 6-11 mark while forced to deal with several key injuries, including ones to a senior tri-captain and the returning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. The Crimson and Gray were denied the final spot in the NEWMAC Tournament due to a tie-breaker.

Moreau came to WPI after an highly successful nine-year run as head coach at Narragansett Regional High School in Baldwinville, MA.  During her tenure, the Warriors were an eye-popping 119-25-33 (.766 winning percentage) with eight undefeated Mid-Wach C championships.  Moreau was the Central Mass Division II Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2006 and guided her 2002 squad to the Central Mass championship.

"This past year Lisa did a terrific job in her interim role and we look forward to her strong leadership of our program in the coming years," said Harmon. "She is an experienced and talented individual who will be an asset to our field hockey program."

WPI marks her second stint as a college coach.  Moreau earned MASCAC Coach of the Year honors after leading Fitchburg State to a conference championship in 2003.  Overall she was 42-36 in her five seasons at the helm of the Falcons.  Moreau joined FSC after serving as the head coach at Narragansett in 1990, a year the Warriors were unbeaten in league play.

"I am looking forward to returning next season," said Moreau. "We have a fantastic core of returning student-athletes and a strong recruiting class coming to WPI.  Their dedication in the offseason will hopefully result in a successful 2008 campaign."

Moreau graduated from Springfield College with an degree in Physical Education before earning her master's from Worcester State.  She recently retired after a distinguished teaching career at Narragansett and Athol high schools.  Moreau served as President of the Central Mass Field Hockey Coaches Association in 2004 and 2005 and as the director of Personnel Jump Start Field Hockey Camp.
