Marokhovsky, Linskey and Ray Lift Field Hockey to 1-0 Win at Lasell

Newton, MA --- The Engineers of WPI shut out the Lasell field hockey team today, 1-0, in a non-conference match-up, at Grellier Field.
During the first half, WPI controlled the ball, attempting 10 shots, yet the Lasers held WPI scoreless. Lasell's goalkeeper, Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) recorded 6 saves in the first half, and was also assisted by defender Kelsey Brooks (Dartmouth, MA) who came up with a defensive save for the Lasers.
The second half was more balanced, with the Lasers producing multiple opportunities to score, but they were unable to connect. Though Thornton accumulated 5 more saves in the second half, WPI's Sasha Marokhovsky (Upton, MA) netted the game's only goal when she put home a Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, MA) rebound with 12:42 remaining in the contest.
Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) recorded the shutout for the Engineers, producing her second of the season. The Engineers are currently 2-0 this season and host Worcester State at 7pm on Tuesday night.
The Lasers, now 0-1, are set to take on MIT in non-conference action next Tuesday, September 9th, at 4:00 p.m., on Grellier Field.
