Marokhovsky Keys Field Hockey's 3-1 Win at Salve Regina

Newport, RI --- WPI rallied for three second-half goals to defeat Salve Regina University 3-1 in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon at the Lawrence Avenue Field.
The Engineers (9-5) outshot the Seahawks 8-2 in the first half but found themselves behind 1-0 at the break on a goal by Salve Regina freshman Elizabeth Hartmann (Bethel, CT) at 15:24. The goal was the first of Hartmann's career and was assisted by junior Toni Pucillo (North Easton, MA).
WPI charged out of the gates in the second half and evened the score at one on senior Nicole Malione's (Charlton, MA) seventh goal of the season just 1:38 into the second stanza. Freshman Sasha Marokhovsky (Upton, MA) put the Engineers in front 2-1 when she knocked home a rebound off a shot by sophomore Meghan Linskey (Bridgewater, Mass.) at 52:43. Freshman Celena Dopart (Washington, D.C.) sealed the win with her third goal of the year at 68:22, with the assist going to Marokhovsky.
Junior goalkeeper Devin Eppley (Darien, CT) made six saves for the Seahawks while junior Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) was credited with two saves for the Engineers.
The Engineers held an 11-3 edge in shots in the second half and finished the game outshooting the Seahawks 15-5. They also received 15 penalty corners, compared to five for Salve Regina.
The Seahawks (4-10) return to action on Saturday when they play at Regis College at 11am. WPI is off until Tuesday when they travel to Smith for a key NEWMAC contest at 6pm.
