Lisa Moreau |
Head Field Hockey Coach lmoreau@wpi.edu 508-831-5588 |
Lisa Moreau enters her third season as head coach of the WPI field hockey program in 2009.
Moreau enjoyed success during her second season, guiding the Crimson and Gray to a 11-8 mark and earning a coveted home game in the NEWMAC tournament. In the tournament, the Engineers won their first postseason game since 1999, when they rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Babson 2-1.
Named interim coach just prior to the start of the 2007 campaign, Moreau guided the Engineers through several key injuries to a 6-11 overall record. The Crimson and Gray narrowly missed the NEWMAC Tournament, coming up on the short end of a three-way tie-breaker.
She arrived at WPI after a highly successful nine-year run as head coach at Narragansett Regional High School in Baldwinville, MA. During her tenure, the Warriors were an eye-popping 119-25-33 (.766 winning percentage) with eight undefeated Mid-Wach C championships. Moreau was the Central Division II Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2006 and guided her 2002 squad to the Central Mass championship.
Moreau boasts an impressive record as a college coach. She earned MASCAC Coach of the Year honors after leading Fitchburg State to a conference championship in 2003. Overall Moreau was 42-36 in her five seasons at the helm of the Falcons. She joined FSC after serving as the head coach at Narragansett in 1990, a year the Warriors were unbeaten in league play.
When hired, Moreau said that she was excited about the opportunity that she has in joining the coaching staff at WPI. "(Former head coach) Johanna DiCarlo did a fantastic job during her five years as head coach and we look to continue to build upon that success," said Moreau. "WPI is known locally, regionally, and nationally for its strong athletics and academics. I am looking forward to the challenges we'll face in the competitive NEWMAC conference."
Moreau graduated from Springfield College with a degree in Physical Education before earning her master's from Worcester State. She recently retired after a distinguished teaching career at Narragansett and Athol high schools. Moreau has also served as the President of the Central Mass Field Hockey Coaches Association in 2004 and 2005 and as the director of Personnel Jump Start Field Hockey Camp.
