WPI Men's Basketball Earns NCAA Tournament Bid
Worcester, MA --- The WPI men's basketball team has been selected to the NCAA Division III Championships for the third consecutive season. The Engineers will travel to Mahwah, NJ where they will meet Stevens (NJ) in a first round contest on Friday evening. The host Roadrunners (21-7) will face York (NY) (18-10) in Friday's other game with the two winners meeting on Saturday night.
WPI was forced to wait for a Pool C (at-large) bid after falling in the NEWMAC championship game on Sunday to Coast Guard (71-66). The Crimson and Gray are 22-3 and were ranked #13 in last week D3hoops.com national pool.
The Engineers are no stranger to Ramapo. In the 2005, head coach Chris Bartley guided WPI to the sectional semifinals (Sweet 16) hosted by the Roadrunners. Stevens Tech is 21-6 and also earned a Pool C bid after being knocked out of the Skyline Conference Tournament semifinals.
