Men's Basketball's Antoine Coleman to attend NCAA Leadership Conference
Worcester, MA --- WPI men’s basketball standout
Antoine Coleman has been chosen to represent the
institution at the 2007 NCAA National Leadership Conference to be
held May 27 through 31 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Lake
Buena Vista, Florida. Coleman will be the first WPI
student-athlete to participate in the conference.
Coleman was selected from a pool of 1,308 nominations from 330
institutions. A total of 356 student-athletes from Division I, II
and III institutions were invited to participate. Coleman was
nominated along with fellow WPI student-athletes Julia Berg
(Cambridge, MA - Women’s Soccer), Christina Grant (Mansfield,
MA - Women’s Volleyball), and Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT -
Men’s Crew).
Coleman, who hails from Everett, MA, has enjoyed tremendous
success on the court, in the community and in the classroom at
WPI. During his junior campaign this past winter, he was
named first-team All-NEWMAC and third team D3Hoops.com All-New
England after leading the Engineers to their fourth straight
conference regular season title and third consecutive selection to
the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Active in Big-Brothers/Big Sisters, Coleman was instrumental in
speaking to Worcester politicians in an effort to maintain after
school programming last spring. He maintains a 3.0 GPA and
completed his IQP Project which revamped the WPI Equipment
Room.
The NCAA National Leadership Conference began in 1996 in
conjunction with the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. The mission of the
conference is to join together a diverse group of the nation's top
student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in
challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them
to become better leaders on their campuses and in their
communities.
