Lasell Hands WPI Men's Basketball its First Loss

Newton, MA --- Jaime Crawford (Coral Springs,
FL) erupted for 43 points and Jose Guitian (Miami,
FL) was a point short of a triple-double as Lasell defeated
visiting WPI 95-87 in non-conference basketball action on Tuesday
evening. With the result, both teams are now 2-1.
The game, which started nearly an hour and a half late due to
heavy traffic in the area, was tightly contested for the first 37
minutes with neither team enjoying more then a six point advantage.
Lasell took control with 10-0 run over a 90 second span late in the
contest highlighted by a lay-up and then a dunk from Crawford
sandwiched between a Guitian 3-pointer.
Crawford drained an eye-popping 15 of 18 shots from the field
including five 3-pointers. Guitian was equally as impressive,
tallying a game-best 14 rebounds and 10 assists to go along with
nine points. Dwayne Powell (Lauderdale Lakes, FL)
chipped in with 15 points and eight assists for the hosts.
WPI saw four players reach double figures in scoring.
Jerome Kirkland (Boston, MA) paced the Engineer
attack with team highs of 17 points, five assists and three steals.

Coleman (Everett, MA) and Ben Etten
(Hollis, NH) all chipped in with 13 points with Marois hauling in a
career-best 12 rebounds. Etten, a freshman, was outstanding in the
second half, with 11 of his 13 points and all six of his rebounds
after the break.
As a team the Lasers shot 55.9% on the night including an
impressive 68.0% in the second half. The Lasell defense stiffened
after intermission. After WPI shot 52.9% before the break, the
hosts limited the Crimson and Gray to 27.9% shooting in the second
stanza
Both teams are off until after Thanksgiving. WPI will host Salem
State in its home opener on Sunday at 4pm while Lasell travels to
Union a week from Wednesday for a 7pm contest.
