Box Score

Pittsford, NY --- WPI used an 11-0 run early in the second en route to defeating Alfred 78-60 in men's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Courtyard-Penfield Holiday Classic hosted by St. John Fisher.  The Engineers are now 7-3 on the season while the Saxons slip to 1-9.

Trailing 34-32 at intermission, the Crimson and Gray got strong second half performances from a pair of freshmen.  Forward Ben Etten (Hollis, NH) collected all 12 of his points in the second stanza, including seven during the critical 11-0 spurt. Point guard Kyle Nadeau (Webster, MA) found it was better to give then to receive, dishing out seven assists on the night.

Jim Marois (Worcester, MA) paced all scorers with 19 points while fellow senior Ryan Bourque (Nashua, NH) chipped with 13 points and seven rebounds.  Etten led all players with eight boards on the night and sharing game-high steal honors with Antoine Coleman (Everett, MA) with four takeaways.  Turnovers played a key role in the win with WPI forcing the Saxons into 22 turnovers while only committing 11 themselves.

Alfred saw four different players reach double digits in scoring.  Garlen Patt (Nelson, PA) led the way for the Saxons with 13 points while Carl Embury (Perry, NY) and Sean D'Auria (Highland Mills, NY) each added 11 and Ron Smith (Lyons, NY) 10.

WPI is off until after the New Year's holiday.  The Engineers will entertain Anna Maria at 7:30 on Thursday, January 3rd.   Alfred returns to the court a day later with an Empire 8 road game versus Nazareth at 8pm.
