Lirette and Kirkland Named to NEBCA D3 Senior All-Star Game

Worcester, MA --- Senior guards Adam Lirette (Dover, NH) and Jerome Kirkland (Boston, MA) were chosen to compete in the 2009 New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game at Babson College on Sunday, April 19. This game was designed to showcase some of the most skilled players in the region. The rosters were selected by several committees made up of area college coaches.
Kirkland had an excellent senior campaign for WPI, and was honored as a member of the all-NEWMAC first team as a result. Kirkland led the Engineers in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game in his senior season. He also leads WPI in steals (2.2 spg) and three-point shooting (33-for-96, .344).
Lirette also put together a great senior season, as he was named to the all-NEWMAC second team. The senior point guard averaged 8.8 ppg and was first on the team in assists at 3.3 per game.
The senior class composed of Kirkland, Lirette, NT Izuchi (Boston, MA) and Will Lyons (Wilbraham, MA) led the team to a 21-6 overall record for the year and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament while posting a 11-1 NEWMAC conference record and the program's sixth straight NEWMAC regular season title. Over the four years, the three also set a new NEWMAC standard for wins by a class. WPI went an eye-popping 42-6 in conference regular season play over the last four years led by these three seniors and 2008-09 team co-captains.
