Kirkland Receives Second NEWMAC Player of the Week Honor in Feb.

Jerome Kirkland

Babson Park, MA --- Senior men's basketball guard Jerome Kirkland has been named NEWMAC Player of the Week for the week ending February 15. Kirkland averaged 18.5 points and four rebounds per game to lead WPI to road wins versus conference rivals Springfield and MIT that wrapped up the regular season NEWMAC title for the Engineers. It marks the sixth consecutive regular season NEWMAC championship for WPI.

Kirkland scored 21 points at Springfield to lead all scorers, helping the Engineers gain a hard-fought win at Springfield last Wednesday February 11. He followed up that performance with 12 first half points on the road at MIT, en route to 16 for the game, in a 72-55 victory that wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC tournament for the Crimson and Gray.

The award marks the second time this month that the senior has been selected NEWMAC Player of the Week. He also received the honor for the week ending February 1, when he averaged 18 points in two home wins vs. MIT and Coast Guard.

Kirkland and Men's Basketball head back onto the court this Wednesday at 7:30pm vs. Wheaton, as the second game of a doubleheader that is part of WPI's Pink Zone festivities to benefit breast cancer research. Women's Basketball will be playing in the early game at 5:30pm vs. Babson.
