    Springfield, MA --- Reid Walker (Lithia, FL) tied his career-high with 23 points, including the final free throw, and Chris Rodgers (Franklin, MA) forced overtime with a late layup as fourth-seeded WPI knocked off top-seeded Springfield, 84-80, in the NEWMAC Men’s Basketball Championship semifinals held in Blake Arena. Kahleb Downing (Middleton, CT) canned a key 3-pointer and a jumper in the extra session.

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Jake Wisniewski (West Brookfield, MA) was a rebound shy of a double-double in the first half and went on to tie his career-bests of 17 points and 10 rebounds without a turnover and senior Aaron Todd (York, ME) shared game-high honors with a career-best 21 points as fourth-seeded WPI advanced to its 15th consecutive NEWMAC Men’s Basketball Championship semifinal with a 95-76 victory over fifth-seeded Wheaton Wednesday night in Harrington Auditorium.

    Cambridge, MA --- Led by a combined 47 points from junior captains AJ Jurko (Weston, FL) and Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, CA), the MIT men’s basketball team closed out the regular season with a 71-59 home win over WPI on Saturday afternoon in Rockwell Cage.

  • NEWMAC Recognizes 31 Winter Student-Athletes for Work in the Classroom

    Westwood, MA --- Eleven WPI winter student-athletes garnered NEWMAC Academic All-Conference status for the third time as 20 more were also recognized for carrying a 3.5 GPA or better. Men’s Swimming & Diving totaled 13 selections, followed by Women’s Swimming & Diving with 12. Women’s Basketball featured four selections and Men’s Basketball netted a pair.

    The Rodgers’ family basketball legacy in New England is well established. Just as Jimmy Rodgers was a longtime Boston Celtics assistant and eventually the team’s head coach from 1988 through 1990, his grandson Chris has become an on-court leader an hour from Boston.

Engineer senior Chris Rodgers (Franklin, MA) poured in a career and game-high 31 points to go with eight rebounds, five assists and a steal.

    Willimantic, CT --- Freshman Kahleb Downing (Middleton, CT) scored 12 points in the first half and was one of five WPI men’s basketball student-athletes to score in double digits as the Engineers knocked No. 20 Eastern Connecticut State from the ranks of unbeatens Thursday night, 75-70, in a rematch of this year’s Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament final.

  • Men's Basketball Tripped up in Overtime at Albertus Magnus

    New Haven, CT --- Mason Jones and Jaqhawn Walters combined for 51 points as Albertus Magnus rallied to force overtime and then defeated visiting WPI 77-73 in a non-conference men’s basketball played Saturday afternoon.  Both teams see their record even out at .500 with the Engineers slipping to 2-2 and the Falcons improving to 1-1 on the young season.

    WORCESTER -- Eastern Connecticut State senior Tarchee Brown (Rockville, CT) was named Most Valuable Player as the Warriors defeated host WPI, 78-68, in the championship game of the Ted Coghlin Memorial Men’s Basketball Tournament Saturday in Harrington Auditorium.
