Men's Crew Caps Great Season with Strong Sunday at ECACs

Worcester, MA --- WPI Men's Crew completed its historic season on Sunday the ECAC Championships on Lake Quinsigamond. The varsity eight placed second in the petite final, defeating New England nemesis Wesleyan for the first time all season as well as the top ranked boat in the country (Virginia). The second varsity earned a bronze medal in its grand final while the third varsity took first in the petite final.
The WPI eight including Connor McGrath (Troy, NY), Scott Gary (Lubbock, TX), Neil Lettenberger (Oakland, ME), Henry Moore (Jaffrey, NH), Arthur Gager (Kennebunk, ME), Sebastien Cohn (Orinda, CA), Tobin McGee (Rye, NY), Andrew Sandefer (New Orleans, LA) and coxswain Bethany Bouchard (Nashua, NH) placed fifth in their semifinal race and concluded with the second overall spot (6:09.529) in the petite final.
The second varsity eight of Jeffrey Onderdonk (Colechester, CT), Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT), Drew Oprea (Hicksville, NY), Ben Johnson (Northford, CT), Berk Birand (Istanbul, Turkey), Burak Derkunt (Istanbul, Turkey), Max French (Harwinton, CT), Don Havener (Turner, ME), and coxswain Brenna Colleary (Southboro, MA) combined to take home a bronze medal (6:36.246) in the grand final. Earlier in the day, the team rowed a strong semifinal race to finish second and earn a spot in the championship race.
Garret Cavanaugh (Townsend, MA), Evan May (Marshfield, MA), Matt Kielbasa (Ludlow, MA), Drew Domnarski (Pawcatuck, CT), Elan Pelletier (Georgetown, MA), Tom Parenteau (Scarborough, ME), Andrew Emerson (York, ME), Josh Wimble (Albans, VT) and coxswain Nina Bass (Trumbull, CT), who make up the third varsity eight, finished fourth in the semifinal before posting a 6:54.459 to take home a victory in the petite final.
The ECAC Invitational marked the last meet of the 2007-2008 crew season. The Engineers will enjoy the summer off before hitting the water in September.
