Men's Crew Starts the Season Right at Textile River Regatta

Lowell, MA --- The WPI Men's Crew squad got their 2008-2009 season off to an outstanding start at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell on Sunday.  The men's open eight and an open four boat won their respective races while the second varsity eight earn a silver medal. 

The varsity eight of Tobin McGee (Rye, NY), Scott Gary (Lubbock, TX), Arthur Gager (Kennebunk, ME), Andrew Sandefer (New Orleans, LA), Jeff Onderdonk (Colechester, CT/), Hank Moore (Jaffrey, NH), Ben Johnson (Northford, CT), Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT) and coxswain Bethany Bouchard (Nashua, NH) won their race in a time of 18:48.67.  The combination of McGee, Gary, Gager and Sandefer took home the gold medal in the open four with a time of 20:02.89  while Onderdonk, Moore, Johnson and Vitello placed fifth at 20:42.04.

The second varsity eight also has a great day.  The boat of Don Havener (Turner, ME), Max French (Harwinton CT), Adam Panzica (Freeport, ME), Ricky Holak (Windham, NH), Corey Stevens (Douglas, MA/), Marshall Bernklow (Devens, MA), Andrew Emerson (York, ME), Justin Bales (Upland, CA) and Nina Bass (Trumbull, CT) took home second in the club eight (19:26.29) while the same group with coxswain of Brenna Colleary (Southboro, MA) placed fifth in the open eight (19:42.44). 

Men's Crew will continue the fall portion of their 2008-2009 schedule with their only home regatta next weekend.  The Engineers will host the Quinsigamond Head Race on Sunday morning.
