April 21, 2014 WPI Athletes of the Week #31 Softball's Clare Doolin and Men's Rowing's Varsity Eight were named WPI Student-Athletes of the Week. Doolin won all three of decisions last week as the Engineers captured five of six contests and secured a NEWMAC Tournament bid while the men's varsity eight defeated Trinity for the first time under 15-year head coach Larry Noble on Saturday and capturing the Baker Cup by knocking off Tufts for the ninth consecutive year on Sunday. April 13, 2014 | Men's Rowing Knocks off Bates for the First Time Since 2010 Worcester, MA --- WPI men’s rowing’s varsity eight defeated a strong Bates boat for the first time in four years in racing Sunday morning with the University of Rochester on Lake Quinsigamond. The varsity eight out stroked a talented Bates by just two tenths of a second (6:06.1 to 6:06.3). The second varsity eight ost a nail biter to the Bobcats, coming up just a quarter of a second short (6:17.7 to 6:17.95) while the third varsity eight also finished second to Bates (6:28.69), falling by less than two seconds. >>
April 12, 2014 | Men's Rowing Makes 2014 Spring Debut on Lake Quisigamond Worcester, MA --- WPI men's rowing opened the 2013 spring season by competing for the Donahue Cup on Saturday, squaring off with Williams, MIT, Connecticut College and Franklin & Marshall on Lake Quisigamond. The varsity eight comprised of John Morrisey, Matt Foley, Kendell Cotton, Alex Baret, Gary Jackson, Joe Sperry, Keegan Cole, Nick Van Sciver, and coxswain Mitra Marvasti-Sitterly finished third behind Williams and MIT in a time of 6:03.44. >>
April 4, 2014 | Rowing Spring Season Start Delayed a Week Worcester, MA --- The harsh New England winter has impacted yet another WPI athletics event. Saturday’s rowing regatta on Lake Quinsigamond was been cancelled as the lake is still not ready for competition after being frozen throughout the winter. The men were scheduled to compete against Wesleyan, Middlebury, UMass and Colby in the Class of 2003 Cup while the women were set to debut the Jennifer McLaughlin Cup versus Wesleyan, Smith, Colby and Middlebury. >>
January 21, 2014 | Worcester Polytechnic Institute Names Laurie Leshin as its 16th President Worcester, MA --- After a six-month intensive search, the Board of Trustees of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has elected Laurie Leshin, PhD, as the university's 16th president. Over the past 20 years, Leshin, a geochemist and space scientist, established herself as both an academic and administrative leader, having cultivated an impressive career at NASA, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Arizona State University (ASU), and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Leshin was selected to lead WPI from an initial candidate pool of approximately 200. >>
October 27, 2013 | Men's Rowing Wraps Up 2013 Fall Campaign at the Head of the Fish Regatta Saratoga Springs, NY --- WPI men's rowing concluded its fall season Saturday with a busy day at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs. NY. The varsity eight placed sixth in a time of 12:07.35. For many of the members of the boat, it was their third race of the day. October 21, 2013 | WPI Athletes of the Week #8 The Men's and Women's Rowing Varsity Eights were named WPI Student-Athletes of the Week. The boat made up of John Morrissey, Nick Cebry, Kendell Cotton, Alex Barat, Gary Jackson, Matt Foley, Jackson Krupmick, Matt Deptula and coxswain Tyler Collins crossed the finish line 10th while the boat manned by of Liz Audet, Elisabeth Boulanger, Julie Waddell, Brooke Cotta, Maggie Freed, Emily Hofmeister, Anisa Swei, Corre Steele and coxswain Jess Prashaw posted a seventh place finish at the Head of the Charles on Sunday. >>
October 20, 2013 | Men's Rowing Impressive at the Head of the Charles Regatta Cambridge, MA --- WPI men’s rowing had an outstanding showing this weekend at the iconic annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The Engineers battled tough conditions to see their varsity eight place tenth in the collegiate eights and the second varsity eight finish 22nd in the club eights at the 49th annual event. The varsity eight crossed the finish line in 15:58.577 to secure the Crimson and Gray’s second top 10 finish in the last four years. WPI posted the fourth best time among Division III boats. >>
October 12, 2013 | Men’s Rowing Places Second at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta Worcester, MA --- The WPI men’s rowing team posted a second place finish at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday. The Varsity Eight - John Morrissey, Nick Cebry, Kendell Cotton, Alex Barat, Gary Jackson, Matt Foley, Jackson Krupmick, Matt Deptula and coxswain Tyler Collins (Manchester, NH) – clocked a 14:03.712 while Division I Holy Cross won the race with a 13:44.126. >>
October 6, 2013 | Men's Rowing Kicks Off 2013 Fall Campaign at Textile River Regatta Lowell, MA --- The WPI men's rowing team began its 2013-2014 season at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell on Sunday. The Crimson and Gray amassed a gold and silver to go along with a fifth, sixth and seventh place performances. The varsity eight earned a silver in the club eight (19:20.995) and was fifth in the open eight (20:09.462). The second varsity eight placed sixth in the club eight (20:19.934) and finished seventh in the open (20:52.150). >>
