Worcester, MA --- Men's Crew capped off a busy weekend of competition rowing against Bates and the University of Rhode Island on Sunday morning. WPI faired well as the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight each took home victories for the second consecutive day.
The varsity eight of Connor McGrath (Troy, NY), Ben Johnson (Northford, CT), Hank Moore (Jaffrey, NH), Andrew Sandefer (New Orleans, LA), Arthur Gager (Kennebunk, ME), Sebastien Cohn (Orinda, CA), Tobin McGee (Rye, NY), Scott Gary (Lubbock, TX) and coxswain Bethany Bouchard (Nashua, NH) powered to a 6:04.3 finish to take the top prize while the second eight of Jeff Onderdonk (Colechester, CT), Josh Wimble (Albans, VT), Don Havener (Turner, ME), Ricky Holak (Windham, NH), John Madura (Hewitt, NJ), Zack Theoharidis (Sedgwick, ME), Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT), Max French (Harwinton, CT) and cox Brenna Colleary (Southboro, MA) crossed the finish line in 6:23.83 to win their race.
The third eight also finished on top as Mike Mourkas (Hampden, ME), Andrew Emerson (York, ME), Adam Panzica (Freeport, ME), Corey Stevens (Douglas, MA), Alex Becker (Webster, MA), Dan Pierson (Hampton, NH), Marshall Bernklow (Devens, MA), Justin Bales (Upland, CA) and Nina Bass (Trumbull, CT) registered a 6:33.5 mark.
Rounding out the outstanding day for the Engineers was the Varsity Four combination of Panzica, Emerson, Bernklow, Kellermeier and Bass who rowed to second place with a 7:21.05 finish.
Men's Crew will return to the water on Saturday, April 11th when they face off against MIT, Williams and Connecticut College for rights to the Donahue Cup. The first race is expected to begin at 8am.
