WPI Men's Soccer Improves to 3-0 with Victory over Fitchburg State

Worcester, MA --- Matt Douville (Northbridge,
MA) successfully converted a penalty kick midway through the first
half to account for the only goal of the match as WPI defeated host
Fitchburg State 1-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Friday
evening. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-0 while Fitchburg
State falls to 0-3 on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Brian Catalano (Whitinsville,
MA) notched two saves to help record his second shutout of the
season. As a team, the Engineers have only allowed one goal in
three matches to start the start.
Nathan Thornhill (North Andover, MA) was solid in
goal for the Falcons, registering three saves on the evening.
WPI enjoyed a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner
kicks on the night.
WPI will return to action on Wednesday when they entertain
Brandeis in their home opener at 7pm. Fitchburg State is also off
until Wednesday when they travel to Newbury for a 3:30pm match.
