Babson 4, WPI 0
Babson Park, MA --- Junior Chris Schwartz
(Guilford, CT) and sophomore Tim Winn (Sutton, MA)
recorded two goals apiece to lead the Babson College men's soccer
team to a 4-0 victory over visiting WPI in a New England Women's
and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Hartwell-Rogers
Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Beavers improved to 7-3-2 overall and 2-1-0 in
the conference, while WPI lost its fourth straight to fall to 5-4-1
overall and 1-2-0 in the NEWMAC.
Babson took a 1-0 lead less than six minutes into the contest, as
Winn headed a cross from sophomore Brendan
McNamara (Exeter, NH) directly to Schwartz, who fired a
shot from the top of the box into the lower right corner. Winn then
scored his first of the game when he redirected a perfect cross
from first-year Dan Fogarty (Brookline, NH) inside
the right post at 17:11. Less than two minutes later, Winn tallied
his second assist of the game when he blasted a ball off charging
WPI goalie Brian Catalano (Whitinsville, MA) that
trickled right to Schwartz, who put away the wide open shot for his
second goal of the game. Winn then finished off his six-point
performance with a goal at 56:45, giving Babson the 4-0
victory.
First-year Luis Soto (Jackson Heights, NY) made
his first collegiate start in net for Babson and earned the shutout
win. Catalano finished with one save in net for WPI.
