WPI Defeats Springfield Going 2-1 in NEWMAC
WPI 1, Springfield 0
Springfield, MA --- Springfield College junior goalkeeper
Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, DE) made
three stops in 90 minutes in goal this afternoon, but it was the
WPI Engineers which slipped past the Pride on 'Senior Day' during
SC's Homecoming Week, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Brock-Affleck Field.
WPI (7-4-1, 2-2 NEWMAC) senior forward Sean
O'Keefe (Walpole, MA) scored his second goal of the season
and the eventual game-winner in just the ninth minute of action
(8:18) to lift the Engineers. O'Keefe's game-winner came from a
feed off the foot of Ben Gilde (Manchester,
NH)
The Pride (4-9-2, 1-4 NEWMAC) had a multitude of chances during
regulation, outshooting WPI by a 22-7 margin overall and a 10-4
margin in the shots-on-goal department. Engineer senior goalkeeper
Brian Catalano (Whitinsville, MA) saved an
impressive 10 Pride shots to pick up his seventh victory of 2006
(7-1-1). Catalano has now recorded five shutouts on the season as
well.
SC will next hit the road for three consecutive away matches to
finish the regular-season. The road trip starts with a match in
Waltham, MA, against non-conference opponent, Brandeis University,
on Wednesday evening, October 18th at 7:00 p.m
WPI will host Rivier in a non-conference match on Wednesday
